On the plus side the laptop functionality of POD FARM is awesome.This is to be expected, but there are certain models that are unusable at 44k. The second thing is that there’s a BIG sonic difference in the distorted sounds between 44 and 96k.There are ways to circumnavigate this (and you can definitely adjust your playing around it), but when playing through it, you’re definitely playing a good sounding model rather than an amp. But if you roll back on the volume, it’s not going to clean up the way a real Marshall would. By that I mean, if you have a Marshall sound with a killing setting that you dig, then that’s great. The first thing about POD FARM to recognize is that the amps are more like specific snapshots of amps than fully realized models.For tonal flexibility – it’s really cool. When I made my initial post about this, I didn’t have the 2 units to compare, but I do now and here are my thoughts. There’s been a lot of interest in the posts on this site regarding modeling, POD Farm and POD HD. This probably isn't a completely valid comparison, but given that both are modelers I think it's at least valid to some degree.Computers, and models and amp sims – OH MY! I'm consistently more impressed with the all-new modelers I hear on the software end of things, like from NI and Waves and all of them, because I think they're doing exactly that. would probably have much more convincing sounds if they just redid everything from scratch at some point in THIS decade rather than dressing up old algorithms. I'm sure this makes a difference, but I feel like with how fast technology advances, and how much has happened in the past ten years, companies like Line 6, Vox, Digitech, Boss, etc. I guess they've come up with some new ones recently (like the /13 model in the new Spider Valve), but in general a lot of the stuff that's in the newest amps/effects units are in fact the better part of a decade old, just run through superior DSPs I guess.

I wish ANY of these companies would update their algorithms more. Imagine a car manufacturer still producing a car 10 years later and using '90s tech.no air bags, no ABS or stability control.their car may have had fuel injection and climate control and leather back in the day and naturally they are still very nice inclusions.but they are behind the times ultimately. Not updating it at so many turns (the XT launch in '04, the X3 launch in '08 and now the latest POD Farm 2 plugin) makes one really wonder what is going on.ĭo they want the competition to just demolish them? It's a fantastic product but the real corner stone of the company has to be the POD line and it's software. In some ways it gives credence to the rumours of talent leaving and L6 being stuck with their current IP.and nothing else.įor example, the M13 is great but it is kind of a repackage of their POD X3 tech into a unit with just more processing power and good quality relays/switches etc. I like their products and enjoy their X3 and M13 but am very surprised that they would miss such an opportunity. Set me straight if I've misinterpretted the available info. Now, I could be wrong, but if POD Farm II has come out and NOTHING sound wise has changed, isn't this a rather large missed opportunity? So, when does the X4 with new algo's come out? I'm not part of this majority as I think they sound fairly similar but the weight of numbers does seem to be against me.

I really like my X3 it's simple to use, sounds decent and is pretty flexible for a reasonably priced consumer modeler, but it obviously doesn't sound like the 11R, let alone the Axe.and the majority seem to think the RP series kicks its butt as well.
Please tell me something is on the horizon.? Update the algo's, release POD Farm Mk II and then roll out the POD X4 pro, live etc with new more powerful hardware.īut, from what I have read it just looks like a little catch up in the plugin stakes. Now, I like many other regulars here would imagine this was a rather momentus opportunity for L6.
